Top quality meat has been the key focus of John Scott Meat, Paisley, since 1968 when several butchers in the Greenock area asked local farmer John Scott if he could supply them direct. The request was based on their appreciation of the reliable quality of livestock which they’d come to expect from the Scott family farm.
From this simple start, John Scott Meat has grown into a business which today delivers meat to quality butchers, wholesalers and caterers throughout Scotland and the South East of England.
After initially working through an abattoir in Dumbarton, the business moved five years later to the company’s existing location in Paisley. Then, in 1978, John Scott was the major influence in taking over the abattoir which formed Sandyford Abattoir (Paisley) Ltd., which operates today, providing a slaughtering service and, more importantly, gives John Scott Meat complete control of its product from farm to customer.
Key developments in recent years have included the acquisition of William Bosomworth from Utd. Auctions and the purchase of Galashiels-based Forth Meat Supplies.
The company’s southern England business, meanwhile, is run from a wholly-owned distribution depot at Basildon in Essex.
While the development of John Scott Meat continues to go from strength to strength, the original foundation of trust between the company, its suppliers and customers, all based on reliable quality, has never wavered.
The business today is run by John Scott’s daughter Hazel and son Jamie while John and his wife, Elsie, who still live at the family farm are enjoying their retirement, plus a little bit of livestock buying activity for John.
John Scott Meat is a member of the Scottish Association of Meat Wholesalers, through whom the company is closely aligned with Quality Meat Scotland.
